The Book Bit: June 2023 Ed.

I'm going to keep this short and sweet today. June was a crazy month for us and I'm really glad it's over. I did manage to get some reading done, somehow, and I'd love to share what I read with you! If you want weekly updates and recommendations feel free to check out my YouTube channel, as I post over there weekly.  "Love Beyond Body, Space, and Time" by Hope Nicholson This is an indigenous sci-fi anthology that focuses on two-spirit and lgbtq stories. This greatly exceeded my expectations! If you're looking to broaden your scope of rainbow books, I highly recommend this. I absolutely love reading indigenous authors and this was no exception. This collection of short stories was just what I was looking for during pride month. This is one of those books that you just keep on your shelf and peruse when you have a free twenty minutes. If you haven't read any indigenous work, these are great samples to some of the best authors in the community.  "Lov

The Book Bit: May 2023 Ed.

I know this is late! May was absolutely bananas over here. Like one of the busiest months I've had in a while and I'm still trying to recover. I have a May hangover, if you will. And I had to pull out all my tricks just to get through my reading this month, including changing up my original lineup! I never do that! Once I settle on my books, I follow through and I couldn't do it this month. Something had to give and it ended up being my final lineup. That being said, I still put away some good books this month, so let's chat about it.  "Dope" by Sara Gran   Josephine has been sober for almost two years when she gets commissioned to find a girl caught in the dope world. At first it seems like an easy enough job, but once Jo starts looking for this girl she starts to wonder if she even wants to be found. And if she's sacrificing her hard work at staying sober just to score some extra cash.  This is my second Sara Gran novel and it will probably be my last. I

The Book Bit: April 2023 Ed.

I know I say this every month, but time has just swept away this month. April was really weird for us and we were somehow swamped with stuff and yet not busy at all. Does that make any sense? And the weather? Usually April is our rainy season and we've had almost none this year. It's weird. Does this mean summer is going to be awful? I don't know, I'm all turned around honestly! April was also a weird reading month for me because I just couldn't get motivated to read. I read my first book really fast and then didn't pick another one up for two weeks! It didn't help that two of the books this month weren't my favorite. I struggled through two of them. Ok, let's talk about what I read! "The Kiss Thief" by L.J. Shen Francesca Rossi is young and ready to start her life with her childhood sweetheart when her father forces her into an arranged marriage with Senator Wolfe Keaton. Instead of marrying into one of the most powerful families in the Ch

The Book Bit: March 2023 Ed.

Hey all! The last few days have been absolutely beautiful weather for us and I'm so ready to move on from the cool temps. I have been *craving* the sunlight and am so happy we're finally getting it! Some of my bulbs are already coming up and my trees are starting to bloom - this time of year just instantly lifts my spirits. I hope it's the same for you, wherever you are. So, I was insanely busy in March, like didn't have time to breathe busy and I heavily relied on audio books this past month. I only physically read *part* of one book, the rest I listened to while doing other things that also needed doing 😂 Like I said, I was busy, but let's talk about the books I got through in March, they were excellent! "Kill You Twice" by Chelsea Cain This is the fifth book in the Gretchen Lowell & Archie Sheridan series and I'm so glad I read this book this month! I've been absolutely in love with this serial killer thriller series since I started it a fe

The Book Bit: February 2023 Ed.

Welcome back! Did you have a lovely February? Mine just flew by! I know it's the shortest month, but I really felt it this year. Did you read any romance novels for Valentine's Day or pick up any books for Black History Month? I'm not much for the heart's holiday, so I didn't add it into my lineup, but I definitely try to diversify my bookshelf all year round and made sure to tuck in a book by one of my favorite BIPOC authors this month. OK, let's actually talk about what I read! "The Christmas Murder Game" by Alexandra Benedict Every year at Endgame House there's the annual Christmas Game. And though Lily is by far the best at it, she's not participated in many years since her mother passed away in that very house. But when she receives a letter from her aunt telling her the secrets around her mothers death will be revealed at the Christmas Game, Lily can't help but be drawn in. Throw in the fact that the winner gets Endgame House, everyon

The Book Bit: January 2023 Ed.

January was absolutely wild over here. I don't know where the month went, but I was busy for every minute of it! It simultaneously felt like the longest and shortest month ever. Did you get any good reading done for January? I, somehow, managed to read three books and they were all pretty good! I say somehow, because, seriously I was so busy. Busiest month I've had in a while, that's for sure. Without any more further ado, let's talk all about it! "The Girl In Red" by Christina Henry  When the pandemic hit, Red knew exactly what they needed to do: get to Grandma's house. While the world was ripping itself apart, she knew her and her family would be safest the more secluded they got, but did her family wait too long? What starts as a simple flee to safety spirals into something much darker as Red and her family are not the only people wandering the woods in the dark.  I absolutely love Christina Henry and this book really delivered. It's a modern spin o

The Book Bit: December 2022 Ed.

I hope you all had a fantastic holiday season and a happy beginning to 2023. I, honestly, don't know where 2022 went, but I can definitely say that I'm happy to move into the new year. Did you make any reading resolutions? If you want to go check out my YouTube channel , you can see all the things I'm hoping to accomplish (reading-wise) there. I post weekly over there and talk all about bookish things if you're interested. Despite how busy and hectic December was, I still managed to get in some excellent books. Did you read anything interesting this month? Leave me a comment and tell me all about it! OK, let's start! "Santa's Broken Toy" by Oona Grace Mary is done. Done with people tip-toeing around her, asking her about her feelings, and trying to not bring up her very dead husband. This year, for the holidays, Mary decides to stay in a secluded cabin away from all of that. She can't take another holiday of pity stares. But only a few hours into h
