The Book Bit: January 2023 Ed.

January was absolutely wild over here. I don't know where the month went, but I was busy for every minute of it! It simultaneously felt like the longest and shortest month ever. Did you get any good reading done for January? I, somehow, managed to read three books and they were all pretty good! I say somehow, because, seriously I was so busy. Busiest month I've had in a while, that's for sure. Without any more further ado, let's talk all about it!

"The Girl In Red" by Christina Henry

When the pandemic hit, Red knew exactly what they needed to do: get to Grandma's house. While the world was ripping itself apart, she knew her and her family would be safest the more secluded they got, but did her family wait too long? What starts as a simple flee to safety spirals into something much darker as Red and her family are not the only people wandering the woods in the dark.

I absolutely love Christina Henry and this book really delivered. It's a modern spin on the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale and it really worked for me. At the beginning, this comes across as an apocalypse/survivalist type story, but the further in you get you start to realize it's something much darker (which is perfectly fitting for Henry). There was also some great representation here i.e. BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and our main character has a prosthetic leg. The twists in this book really threw me and I couldn't read it fast enough. Highly recommend.

"Grown" by Tiffany D. Jackson

Enchanted just wants to sing. That's all she's ever wanted, even though her parents want her to pursue something a little more stable. But when this seventeen year old gets a chance at a singing audition, she jumps with both feet at the opportunity. By some miracle, one of the best artists of the time sees her audition and asks her to come record with him. And what starts out as a once in a lifetime opportunity with a famous (much older) musician turns sinister quickly and soon, Enchanted finds out fame isn't as cracked up as she thought it was.

Tiffany Jackson is a master writer and you'll never change my mind. In the past her books have left off on horrible (unexplainable) cliffhangers, but she didn't break my heart this time with this book. She put the music industry under the microscope and also the acceptability of age gap dating when it pertains to minors. Jackson always writes amazing story lines packed full with POC and BIPOC issues and this one was no exception. This book really delivered for me and I highly recommend it.

"Learn My Lesson" by Katee Robert

This is book two in the Wicked Villains series, to see my review for book one, you can find that here. If you didn't know, the Wicked Villains series is all about Disney princesses, but instead of the hero getting the girl it's the villains turn to play. I'm not going to lie, these are smut books and they don't shy away from kink whatsoever. This book focuses on Hades, Meg, and Hercules as they rule the Underworld of Carver City. Book one (Desperate Measures with Jasmine and Jafar) was fine, but this book was amazing. I absolutely loved the dynamic between these three and the play scenes were delectable! If you're looking for strong plot and scene setting, this isn't for you. If you're looking for decent character arcs, lots of kink and sex, and new characters for upcoming books, this will deliver on that front. I had lots of fun reading this!

Well, that's all I managed to put away this month, but I was so happy with all of them! Did you read anything interesting in January? I'd love to hear all about what you've been reading. The Book Bit: April 2016 ed.

April.  Wow, wow, April.  It came and went so quickly and my schedule looked like a mad man came in and scribbled all over it.  We were busy .  So busy in fact that I only got to read two books this past month!  Two!  Oh, the travesty!   But, in all fairness, did you see the size of the Kostova book?!  It's huge!  It should count for two reads due to the sheer size of it.   April's choices were rather odd, but humorously in the same genre: romance!  Oh, how I love me a good romance.  "Snow Melts in Spring" was actually written by a relative (well... sort of a relative.  By marriage.  Or something.) and given to me by my great Aunt.  The Kostova book was a gift from another book worm friend of mine which she found at the greatest little discount bookshop in the area.  Seriously, they let you have a running tab; goodbye grocery money!   Needless to say, it was odd they fell in the same genr...

The Book Bit: March 2020 Ed.

What a month this has been, am I right? I hope everyone is staying safe and being cautious, but I mostly hope that all of you are in excellent health. For those of us stuck at home until further notice, it can mean tons of time for extra reading! Well, my kids cut in on my reading time frequently, but I still managed to read three excellent books this month. "Lone Wolf"- Jodi Picoult You all know how much I love Jodi Picoult, so whenever I find myself in a slump I look into her collection and find one I haven't read. It'll be a sad day when I finally manage to read all of them. Do you guys have a go-to author? This book was nothing short of heart-wrenching, loving, beautiful, and tragic.  Luke Warren has spent his life with the wolves. He runs a sanctuary, is a member of the pack, and even spent an entire year in the wild living within a wolf pack. His extended relationship with his pack led to familial disaster. His wife divorced him and his son moved to Thail...

The Book Bit: November 2022 Ed.

I know I always say this, but I have no idea where the month went! November came and went in a whirlwind. I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday and is staying warm. I don't know about where you're living, but here, the weather has really turned cold fast. I'd even settle for snow at this point if it meant it would be a little less frigid. Even though November blew by, I still managed to read a couple of really good books! I think I'm officially out of my reading slump, which is a great relief. This time of year is when I typically do the most reading since we spend a majority of our time indoors. Ok, enough chit chat, let's talk about what I read this month. "Desperate Measures Short Stories" by Katee Robert So, last spring I read "Desperate Measures" by Katee Robert (you can find my review for that here ) and I've been meaning to pick up that series, but haven't managed to do it. I found out that Katee Robert published a book of b...
