The Book Bit: June 2022 Ed.

Hey all! Wow, I know I'm getting this out a bit late, but June was so busy! I can't even remember what we were doing but everyday was filled with something. I feel like I'm just now slowing down into my lazy summer. And, let me tell you, it will be lazy from here on out. I'm going to kick back and relax as much as I can this next month. Do you have any fun summer plans? Or are you taking it easy too? So, I did manage to get some great books read in June, let's talk about them! And if you didn't know, I now have a YouTube channel! You can find that here, it's a channel all about books i.e. what I've read, what I'm thinking about reading, book recommendations, etc. You should check it out! Ok, let's get into these books!

"Queens of Themiscyra" by Hannah Lynn

Have you ever wondered how the Amazon warrior women loved? We've all heard of Achilles, Theseus, Hercules, but what of the legendary women that destroyed armies within a few hours, the women that ended long wars in an afternoon? Look no further. Hannah Lynn has written a beautifully captivating tale of the lives and loves of the Queens of the Amazonian women. Oh, wow, did this book pack a punch. I'll be honest, I'm not much of a historical fiction fan or Greek mythos, but Lynn does such a good job at writing this that I loved it! She has this amazing gift of making me care so very much about every character she writes. And she does her research! All the applause for this book, I promise it's wonderful.

"What Friends Are For" by J.C. Rose

This book contains three very adult short stories all based on the friends to lovers trope. These stories are very sexually graphic, but let me tell you, I've never laughed so hard while reading in my life. Rose does such an amazing job with these characters, I couldn't believe how well detailed they were for short stories. I know I'm not saying much, but I don't really want to give anything away. Basically, if you're looking for something easy to read, smutty, funny, with decent representation, this is honestly a great pick.

"The Girlfriend" by Sarah J Naughton

When Mags gets the call that her long lost brother is dead, she doesn't really know how to feel about it. They haven't seen each other in years, anyway. But upon arriving at his flat and surveying the scene, she knows his fall was no accident. He was pushed. But by who and why? As Mags starts unravelling her brother's complex life she discovers she may not only want the truth, but revenge. And she'll stop at nothing to avenge him.

This book was exceedingly complicated and full of blind sided twists. There's lot of points of view which sometimes made it hard to follow, but was well resolved. This book is full of morally gray issues. And, honestly, I don't know how I feel about this book. I didn't love it or hate it. I had issue with it but then at certain moments I didn't. It was a complicated book full of complicated issues. Be advised, there's lots of sexual violence and abuse in this book, so skip it if that's a soft spot for you. This was for my book club and we'll definitely have loads to discuss when we get to it.

Well, that's what I read for June! Have you read anything amazing lately? Is there a book you'd like to recommend to me? Drop me a comment! I love hearing about all the things you all are reading. I've already got some books ear marked for July that I'm excited about, so make sure to check back next month for those. Remember, check out my YouTube channel, I post there weekly. Until next time! Happy reading!

The Book Bit: April 2016 ed.

April.  Wow, wow, April.  It came and went so quickly and my schedule looked like a mad man came in and scribbled all over it.  We were busy .  So busy in fact that I only got to read two books this past month!  Two!  Oh, the travesty!   But, in all fairness, did you see the size of the Kostova book?!  It's huge!  It should count for two reads due to the sheer size of it.   April's choices were rather odd, but humorously in the same genre: romance!  Oh, how I love me a good romance.  "Snow Melts in Spring" was actually written by a relative (well... sort of a relative.  By marriage.  Or something.) and given to me by my great Aunt.  The Kostova book was a gift from another book worm friend of mine which she found at the greatest little discount bookshop in the area.  Seriously, they let you have a running tab; goodbye grocery money!   Needless to say, it was odd they fell in the same genr...

The Book Bit: November 2022 Ed.

I know I always say this, but I have no idea where the month went! November came and went in a whirlwind. I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday and is staying warm. I don't know about where you're living, but here, the weather has really turned cold fast. I'd even settle for snow at this point if it meant it would be a little less frigid. Even though November blew by, I still managed to read a couple of really good books! I think I'm officially out of my reading slump, which is a great relief. This time of year is when I typically do the most reading since we spend a majority of our time indoors. Ok, enough chit chat, let's talk about what I read this month. "Desperate Measures Short Stories" by Katee Robert So, last spring I read "Desperate Measures" by Katee Robert (you can find my review for that here ) and I've been meaning to pick up that series, but haven't managed to do it. I found out that Katee Robert published a book of b...

The Book Bit: February 2020 Ed.

Hey, everyone! Was it just me, or did February absolutely fly by? I was doing my day-to-day things and started thinking about my daughter's upcoming birthday when I suddenly realized it was less than two weeks away! I, somehow, managed to read three books this month, though I have no idea how I found time. The whole family was sick off and on the entire month. Good news: we're officially on the mend and I'm hoping that was the last round of sickness until the fall. Stay tuned. This midwestern weather is tricky. "Boy, Snow, Bird"- Helen Oyeyemi When Boy runs away from her home at age twenty, she searches for a new start. A new life. She finds it, unexpectedly, with a jewelry craftsman in a close-knit community outside New York. Upon marrying Arturo, she inherits a beautiful daughter, Snow. Her journey in step-motherhood is, at first, quite blissful and fun. When she has a daughter of her own, Bird, the once strong relationship between Boy and Snow quickly becom...
