The Book Bit: December 2020 Edition

December has really been busy this year! I don't know about you guys, but it just feels non stop over here once December hits. Even though we didn't do a lot of our usual Christmas time traditions, there was no shortage of hustle and bustle. I managed to read some pretty good books this month. It was so hard for me to choose a favorite because I loved them all! How did you get along for Christmas this year? Did you make new traditions? Most importantly, did you get some good books for Christmas? Let me know what you got under the tree this year below.

"The Hunting Party"- Lucy Foley

A group of friends get together once a year to bring in the new year. They've all been friends since college, but they're well past their uni years now. This year feels different, more on edge. Everyone is holding a secret this year. The trip is set in a beautiful woodland estate, far away and nestled in the trees where they can get some peace and quiet from the hustle bustle of the city. But when a snowstorm blows through, leaving them stranded and disconnected, how long will it take before things go from edgy to disastrous? When a body turns up, it's only a matter a time before the friends realize there's a murderer among them. So who is it? The perfect one? The loner? The old flame? Which friend would commit a murder? And can help arrive before they kill again?

This book really was a who-dunnit friends edition novel. And I loved it. Foley unraveled the story through multiple voices that kept me guessing until the very end. Did I love the ending? Not really, but I find I usually have trouble with the ending when it's realistic. And this was definitely a realistic ending for the story. I highly recommend this book and will be looking into some more of her novels.

"Winter Stroll"- Elin Hilderbrand

This is the second book in the Winter Street Series. To read my review for book one, you can find that here. I read it last December and decided this might be my winter tradition for the next few years. This book takes place a year after the first and I loved the little break in between. These books remind me a lot of "The Family Stone" film, where everyone has their own drama cooking and they bring it all home for the holidays. I simply love big families and all the little personality clashes and surprises. If you like stories like that, you'll love this little series. It's an easy read and I'm fully invested in this family and all their drama. Hilderbrand never disappoints me, so I always recommend her books.

"Magic For Liars"- Sarah Gailey

Imagine growing up knowing you were the lesser sibling. You're twin sister is perfect, beautiful, talented, and magical. And you're not. That's how Ivy Gamble feels every day. She convinces herself that she doesn't want to be magical. That she's perfectly happy being a private investigator and living a separate life from her talented sister. But then Ivy gets hired to solve a murder at the magical school where her sister teaches. She delves into a life she never knew she wanted and always knew she hated. Can she solve the murder without losing herself in the process?

This book really surprised me. I didn't quite know what I was expecting, but Gailey blew me away. This was sarcastic, intelligent, funny, and gruesome all at the same time. I absolutely love Gailey's writing style and the characters of this book. There's even little pokes at the infamous magical books of our youth in there, that made me chuckle. I cannot recommend this book enough. I had issues with the ending, but it's nothing I can't get over. I really hope you'll read this one.

That's all I had for this month! I hope everyone had a safe and magical holiday. Did you read any books you think I might like? Let me know in the comments section! Happy reading, book nerds! And welcome to 2021.

The Book Bit: March 2020 Ed.

What a month this has been, am I right? I hope everyone is staying safe and being cautious, but I mostly hope that all of you are in excellent health. For those of us stuck at home until further notice, it can mean tons of time for extra reading! Well, my kids cut in on my reading time frequently, but I still managed to read three excellent books this month. "Lone Wolf"- Jodi Picoult You all know how much I love Jodi Picoult, so whenever I find myself in a slump I look into her collection and find one I haven't read. It'll be a sad day when I finally manage to read all of them. Do you guys have a go-to author? This book was nothing short of heart-wrenching, loving, beautiful, and tragic.  Luke Warren has spent his life with the wolves. He runs a sanctuary, is a member of the pack, and even spent an entire year in the wild living within a wolf pack. His extended relationship with his pack led to familial disaster. His wife divorced him and his son moved to Thail

The Book Bit: March 2018 Ed.

I don't know about you guys, but the weather this month has been nothing short of depressing. And cold. Growing up in Oklahoma, I figured I had ample experience with weather roulette, but Nebraska (did I mention we moved to Nebraska?!) has a whole other thing going on. The weather here is bananas. It's cold, rainy, snowing, windy, then maybe it will be sunny, for like, an hour. Possibly. I don't feel like I'm asking for much over here! I just want to take the kids to the park (they are driving me nuts!) or be able to sit on the front porch and read a book, you know, regular things one could do in the SPRINGTIME! *deep breath* Moving on. This month has been crazy busy for us because moving never takes just a few days of your time, but I put away two exceptional books. Both of which are the first books of their series. I know! As if I don't already have at least ten series going right now, but I'm a sucker for them. And, in my defense, one of them was a book clu

Why I Started (and Continue) Blogging

I have had my blog for two years now. I still can't believe it's been that long. Two years ago I decided to get online and start writing, and two years later I'm still here, still writing. Let me start by saying, I never got into blogging to make money, and I haven't made any money off blogging. I started blogging because I felt like I had something to offer the world. I felt like I had something to say. I blog about everything that matters to me, books, my kids, being a mom, being a wife, my lifestyle choices, whatever I feel like writing. Here are some top reasons why I started blogging and still keep at it. 1. I Have Something to Share I am a mother, a college educated woman, my family is not traditional, I move a lot because staying in one place can seem claustrophobic, I married young, I stay at home with my kids, I have dreams and ambitions like everyone else on this planet. And like everyone else, I feel like I have something to share. My blog is a perfect p
