The Book Bit: May 2016 Ed.

#blogtunes I Will Not Bow- Breaking Benjamin Feather- X Ambassadors Polaroid- Imagine Dragons Hold Back the River- James Bay Way Down We Go- Kaleo Loveless- X Ambassadors   I know what you're thinking, "Oh my Gosh!  Alyx actually got her book blog up before the end of the month!"  Hold your enthusiasm; I only got two books in this month.  In my defense, again, I have been doing some traveling and working on some more projects around the house.  Because, obviously, I have nothing better to do with my time.  If you would like to see what I've been up to instead of reading books, which is always preferable but doesn't always happen, check out my Instagram (@alyxandraramos) and see for yourself.  Honestly just looking for sympathy points right now.  So, without any more bs, here are my two books for the month.   "The Good Girl"- Mary Kubica   This book was a gift (aren't books honestly the best gift ever?) and I couldn't wait to ...

Making Your Life Yours

#blogtunes  (full disclosure: feelin the country today) Where I Come From- Montgomery Gentry Mud on the Tires- Brad Paisley Knee Deep- Zac Brown Band (love this song!) Bonfire- Craig Morgan Sweet Home Alabama- Lynyrd Skynyrd (Aw yeah) It's a Great Day to Be Alive- Travis Tritt Holler Back- The Lost Trailers If You Ever Stop Loving Me- Montgomery Gentry (so perfect for this post) The Only Place That I Call Home- Justin Moore   So, this may seem like a touchy subject and I can very easily step on some toes with this post; but I'm going for it.  Which is what this whole topic is about: Going For It.  There was a large part of my life where I was more concerned with what others thought of my life than what I thought of it (and admittedly, this is something I wholeheartedly struggle with to this day, but slowly overcoming it).  One day I woke up and realized I didn't want to keep going down the path I was on, that I was disappointing myself to avoid the di...

The Book Bit: April 2016 ed.

April.  Wow, wow, April.  It came and went so quickly and my schedule looked like a mad man came in and scribbled all over it.  We were busy .  So busy in fact that I only got to read two books this past month!  Two!  Oh, the travesty!   But, in all fairness, did you see the size of the Kostova book?!  It's huge!  It should count for two reads due to the sheer size of it.   April's choices were rather odd, but humorously in the same genre: romance!  Oh, how I love me a good romance.  "Snow Melts in Spring" was actually written by a relative (well... sort of a relative.  By marriage.  Or something.) and given to me by my great Aunt.  The Kostova book was a gift from another book worm friend of mine which she found at the greatest little discount bookshop in the area.  Seriously, they let you have a running tab; goodbye grocery money!   Needless to say, it was odd they fell in the same genr...

Toddler Life Lessons

#blogtunes Loveless- X Ambassadors Feel Again- One Republic Flow- Shawn James Jungle- X Ambassadors I'm So Sorry- Imagine Dragons Seven Years- Lukas Graham Gold- Sir Sly   Full disclosure, this blog post was originally designed for me to tell you all the great life lessons I have taught my kid and how they have benefitted in turning him into a fine young lad; because I'm such a wiz at this whole parenting thing.  But as I started working more and more on this post it started to turn into what my toddler has taught me, not the other way around.   Go figure.   I was going to start by telling you how it's important to teach them things besides, you know, walking, talking, good behavior (those are just basics, right?) and that teaching them more deep and profound things are also necessary.  Like teaching them to fail so that they appreciate success and about how important it is to give your best effort no matter what.  Right.   E...

The Book Bit (March 2016 ed.)

No #blogtunes today; sorry.  The little animal has been a little sick and I absolutely do not want to risk waking him up.  You know how it goes with sick littles.   Anyway, so that we are all on the same page, I am an avid reader.  Usually I work my way through four books a month, sometimes less depending on traveling, holidays, i.e. life.  There will be a blog post about literature and favorite genres, it's in the works, but I'd like to share with you what I've read this month and give you a little review.   Full disclosure, I am a bit of a book whore.  It is really, really hard for me to give a book a bad review.  Yes, there are books maybe I didn't enjoy as much or gush over to other fellow book lovers, but you will rarely hear me say 'I hated it.'  Maybe because I know that author worked so hard to write it, edit it, get the balls to give it to a publisher, work with an editor, edit again and again and finally get it out for ...

A Bit About Being a Stay-At-Home Parent

#blogtunes What Do You Think About That- Montgomery Gentry Sideways- Dierks Bently Frontline- Pillar If You could Only See- Tonic Hero- Skillet The Way You Make Me Feel- Michael Jackson   So, before we get too far along into this topic, let me just say a little something about my #blogtunes.  I love music.  Of every kind.  And music sometimes help me write, so whatever it is I am listening to while writing for you or editing, I'd like to share.  Maybe you'll find something you like, something new to listen to; maybe it will give you some insight to who is writing this blog.  Either way, love it, hate it; the #blogtunes are here to stay.   Alright, so you want to be a stay-at-home parent or you already are, how funny, me too.  Let me start by saying, I was not always a stay-at-home Mom.  (Gasp!)  I know.  And trust me when I say, if someone would have told me I would be at home when I got pregnant, I would have promptly ...

The Personal Bit

So.  Here I am.  Blogging.  Such a funny thing to say considering how long I kept saying I was actually going to do it and now I have.  It only took a large push from some of my family members and for me to finally suck it up and do it. This blog, "The Bit", will be about a lot of different things.  But first, maybe I should let you know a little about who is writing this blog. My name is Alyx.  I grew up in a rural area of Oklahoma surrounded by cow and wheat farms.  I went to college, but never graduated and got married very young.  I moved to Chicago and went to Pastry School, where I did graduate.  I worked my butt off at an internship, got surprised with a pregnancy and got a legit job working at a pastry shop.  The kid came, I went back to work, but hated it. The family packed up and moved to Kansas City, where we now live and I stay at home with my two year old son.  I love to cook, do yoga, hike, camp, read, liste...
